Tory Brennan, great-niece of Dr. Temperance Brennan, moves to Charleston to live with her dad Kit after the death of her mom. Kit works and lives on an island off the coast of the city and Tory become fast friends with Hi, Shelton and Ben, who also live on the island. They attend a prep school in Charleston, but are their own group in every way.Tory and her friends stumble across some Vietnam-era dog tags. They break into the lab on the island and rescue a wolfdog being experimented on; Tory can not leave him and they dog-nap him. In researching these old tags and rescuing the pup, they uncover a human skeleton buried on the island. This, in turn, leads them to more (and more) trouble.
The group takes turns caring for the wolfdog Coop and end up getting a new strain of virus. This virus blends puppy parvo with a human form and gives the kids some strange side effects. As they begin to realize their new powers, and use them in the hunt to track down the killer of a 40-year-old cold case, they become more solidified as a group. They have these flashes of fire pulsing through their veins, heightened senses of sight, smell and hearing. They call themselves the Virals and they are truly a pack.
Virals is the first in a new series. There are three published books, one published novella and another book slated for spring of next year. I definitely recommend this to everyone!!!
