Ides of March Coin sells for $546,250

A very rare Roman coin, dubbed the "Eid Mar" (or Ides of March coin) sold at auction yesterday for $565,250.  This Roman Denarius - stamped in the name of Brutus - is the only coin series to celebrate a murder (the killing of Julius Caesar), mention a specific date (the Ides of March) and one of a few to be referred to by a classical author.  

I found out about this coin from one of the Classics blogs I read.  You can read the article about the coin's sale here.  The moral of the story is this:  someone paid a lot of money to get this very small piece of currency that is over 2,000 years old.  And I would pay money to go examine this coin.  It's too cool.
