The story opens up with an intense scene at the home of Whit and Wisty Allgood - muscular, scary, uniformed men come and arrest the two teens! Whit, near his 18th birthday, and Wisty, 15 years old, are accused of being a Wizard and a Witch. However, the kids do not think that they are a witch and a wizard - they have no powers, they aren't scary crazy or anything. Basically, Whit and Wisty think they are normal kids.But...they are not normal. Throughout their ordeal (being taken to prison, being condemned to death upon their 18th birthdays, multiple attempts at escape, staying safe and protecting each other, and a journey to find their parents) Wisty and Whit discover that they do have some strange powers. And maybe, just maybe, they are a witch and wizard.
This was a great book. It took a bit for me to get into the story, but I was staying up really, really late to finish it by the end. One of the things I liked best about the story (**spoiler alert**) is that the end of the book is not the end of the Allgoods' story. Patterson and Charbonnet did a great job making the reader want to continue the series!
