Busy Weekend: 5K, Family and Summer Weather

A Colorful Weekend

This past weekend was fun, but exhausting!  It was a great weekend filled with time with our sister-in-law and niece, small town events and another 5K to add to my growing list.

Making a colorful shirt
Our sister-in-law and niece came into town on Thursday.  We had a great time with visits, eating good food (both out to eat and at home), going on adventures, watching movies and playing.  I got to take our niece to the grocery store (and give her mom a relaxing morning getting ready).  Our niece had some time with her uncle at the playground and enjoyed playing with our pup.  We went swimming a couple of times at the pool because it is ridiculously hot here!

Taking a walk
On Saturday, my sister-in-law and I walked in the Color Dash.  This is a 5K they had in town to raise money for a local non-profit - Project SAFE.  The Color Dash provided us with pristine, white t-shirts which we promptly got dirty and colorful.  We did the walk in 1 hour and 1 minute (good job us!) during a cool and overcast morning.  It took 2 showers and lots of scrubbing to get most of the color off.  However, I still (4 days later) have a bit of pink on my scalp that won't come off!

Adding more colors

We attempted to preserve the colors in our shirts with vinegar and heat.  My shirt held onto the pinks and oranges, but lost a bunch of the blues and greens.  Hopefully next year we can keep some of the "cool" colors in the shirt!

Color Blast
It was a busy, but fun weekend!  Our pup is still tired - sleeping really, really hard and in awkward places - but she enjoyed hanging out with a toddler.  We are sore and tired, but content.  I'm settling back into the summer routine, which will change again next week, but more about that later.

Such a silly pup - playing with toddlers is tiring!
