Wind.....GRRRRR

The last few days have had more intense winds that we have seen in a while.  Gusts that have awaken me at 3:00 am.  Trees waving.  Roofs creaking.  Basically, the wind has interrupted my sleep, stressed out my pup and made me really, really grumpy.

While I am attempting to stay out of the wind as much as possible, I am trying to remain busy.  I finished three books this weekend.  I finished How To Be A Victorian, by Ruth Goldman.  Ruth is an experimental archaeologist who works and lives in Britian.  She has been in such experiences/shows as Victorian Farm, Victorian Pharmacy, War Time Farm, Edwardian Farm.  Ruth is also hilarious.  So this is an indepth look at the daily life of Victorians with witty, punny commentary from a truly funny woman!

I also read a Wicked History:  Vlad the Impaler.  Just a really, really quick read.  Yes, it is biased look at the real life Dracula.  But it was really cute and really quick read.  I also had a chance to read the graphic novel version of Ozma of Oz.  This edition is the third collection of comics in the Marvel series.  Great art.  And a great story, of course!

You know it has been busy when...

Life has been very, very busy.

"How busy?" you ask.

Well let me tell you.  I haven't posted since November 1st.  That is a good 10 weeks!  Here is a very, very brief run down.

November:
  • Fall Turned Into Winter:  We had a cold snap at the beginning of November.  One day it was a nice fall day, the next you couldn't get warm.  That's right...Wyoming weather!
  • We got to spend Thanksgiving with family.  We went to Colorado and had Thanksgiving dinner with my family, a brunch with my in-laws, a day out with my nieces and nephew, visits with my grandma, did some Black Friday shopping and tried to relax.
December:
  • I went with my parents to celebrate my cousin's graduation from college.  We drove to Albuquerque and spent the weekend with her.  I'm still So SO proud of her!!
  • We decorated the house and the church for Christmas.
  • I played with the bell choir at ShopKo, the Presbyterian church in Gurnsey and at Christmas Eve service.
  • We were able to welcome the in-law side of the family for Christmas.  Christmas with a 5-year-old is definitely a different experience!
  • It snowed on Christmas Day.  And snowed.  And snowed.  And snowed.  We got about 7 inches of heavy, wet snow.  It then snowed off and on and was super super cold.  It hasn't really ended!
January:
  •  It's the new year!!
  • Set New Year's Goals:  Read at least 75 books, spend a few minutes to myself in reflection and prayer each day.
  • Weather is still cold.  At least the sun is coming out every few days and melting the snow.  Unfortunately, it causes ice.  In fact, so much ice that I can't get into the garage because there are massive, massive ice ruts that I can not drive over.

And for the final thought!
  •  You know it has been cold when you go outside wearing just jeans and sweater and the temperate is only 30 degrees!!!!

My favorite night of the year

Tonight is my favorite night of the year.  We get an extra hour of sleep!  It is the night we turn back the clocks one hour!

I've been looking forward to this extra hour for weeks!

I hope that you do something restful and renewing with that hour.

The Fall Crud

The last few weeks our house has been full of 2 "sickies".

It all started with a runny nose and sore throat that was a "gift" from a cute 4 year old to my husband.  She is a sweet girl, but her germs came home.  My husband went to the doctor and did a course of ant-biotics.  As we went to the pharmacy, I got my flu shot.

Fast forward a week or so.  I was getting the warm sweats, sore throat and fatigue.  While I was at the doctor for a physical, she looked in my ears, nose and throat and said I was probably in the middle of a virus and should feel better in a couple of days.

This past Monday I felt so awful - ringing ears, sinus pressure and pain - all the symptoms of an infection.  The doc looked in my ears and said I was working on an ear infection.  So I have been working on a course of anti-biotics and ear drops.

My husband has also been feeling crummy again.  He went to the doctor on Friday.  He has broncitus and has lots of coughing and wheezing with his asthma.

So basically, our house has been full of one or two sickies for the last month.  We have been buying Gatorade in bulk, sleeping a lot and resting.  We are running the humidifier 24-7 and taking hot showers to feel better.  Yup, the life of a sickie!
